Clothing Optional/Nudity Philosophy

1. We encourage acceptance of, ease with, and delight in, and reverence for the human body. 
2. We show respect for each other's perspectives and preferences, as well as those of the neighbors and larger community around nudity within the PTEV.
3. We welcome people with a wide spectrum of views on nudity within the PTEV.
4. We create and maintain an environment that is welcoming for all:  members & visitors.
5. We are willing to accommodate each other's preferences and to revisit strategies over time, with all taking ownership of working on this.
6. We are free to be nude in our own homes.
7. We are creative and flexible with the strategies we develop to address nudity and non-nudity outside of our homes.

Nudity/Clothing Optional Definition and Strategies

1. Definition:  Nudity is defined as skin and body parts that are traditionally covered by a bathing suit (bikini for women) exposed to the elements and the eyes.  This does not apply to breastfeeding, which is encouraged everywhere at the EcoVillage.
2. Strategies to permit nudity while protecting diverse preferences: 

There will be specific places at the PTEV designated as areas where clothing is optional when the area has been reserved and a flag or other sign has been posted. 

All areas where adults are nude, including dwellings and personal areas around them, will be screened from outside view.

With regards to children, the context will determine the appropriateness of nudity and the community may set guidelines for specific children and/or situations.

Any child coming into puberty should wear clothing according to standards for adults.

Background:

With loving guidance from parents and community members, children can learn a reverence for the body that helps them establish healthy boundaries and appropriate dress standards.  Though parents have the primary responsibility for guiding their children, the community has a significant role to play.

Considerable discussion has gone into the overall philosophy and these general strategies.  More specific guidelines and strategies will be developed over time as needed.
